Bathtubs with drawers

Monday, June 27th, 2011

I’ve long been a fan of the functionality of a bed with drawers underneath. In a day of stuff + more stuff, and in some locations housing prices prohibiting the attainment of a spacious abode, storage is a necessity. The Keops Evolution bathtub by the Royo Group, combines luxury and sleekness with an overwhelmingly useful feature: drawers.

Bathrooms, especially in older homes, can be quite tight, pitting the standup shower against the toilet in a tight turnaround to bump into the sink. If you find yourself in a cramped bathroom situation the solution might just be to add more storage in less space. The Keops Evolution tub offers just that, and doesn’t sacrifice style. You can choose any combination between acrylic or walnut finishes and white or black furniture to create your optimal look.

Lusting over this clear glass tub

Friday, May 27th, 2011

An invisible tub? This may just be the perfect tub for the modern home. Luxurious, clean, undeniably beautiful.

It’s made from a thick sheet of glass inserted between the tile walls, creating a stunning effect of weightless bathing. I love it! Boston-based architecture & design firm Stern McCafferty created this bathtub as a custom piece for a couple wanting an open and modern bathroom sanctuary. Well, I think they achieved that goal… plus more!

Artwork in the bathroom

Thursday, March 10th, 2011

When you think of great places in a home to showcase artwork, you probably wouldn’t think of the bathroom. But why not? You spend a decent amount of time in your bathroom (some more than others) and almost all guests in your house go into and use that room as well. Why NOT utilize some of your favorite prints or art pieces there?

When I see home tours, or go to the homes of my friends and family, I just love seeing the placement of art in the bathroom, and how it adds to the ambiance of the room. I’ve found some great examples of the what a little creativity in decorating your bathroom could really add a lot of cheer and homeyness to the space.

The Love Tub

Thursday, February 10th, 2011

When I first spied this curvy modern apparatus the thought never crossed my mind that this might be a bathtub. It looks like a front fender that has fallen off a rare and beautiful space car. But alas! It is a bathtub, a LOVE TUB to be exact.

This shaped Corian Brezza tub was designed by ZAAFDesign for Wisdom Sanitary Ware Co. with the idea of “airiness” in mind. A light and lofty love nest with a practical purpose!

And I can’t help but think that our modern floor faucet would be just the ticket for this showpiece bathroom tub.

Valentine’s Day Gift Ideas

Wednesday, February 9th, 2011

Oh, Valentine’s Day. The sometimes hated, oft-adored day of red and pink is creeping up on us. Over at Houzz, they put together a list of SUPER fabulous Valentine’s Day gift finds, and I literally love everyone of them. The decidedly hip Jonathon Adler needlepoint pillow is divine (hello hubby!), and the antique French tea towels would be an excellent gift idea for the cook of the house.

Going along with the recent trend in dimensional letters as decor and art, the rusty alphabet would be a neat way to spell out the initials of the one you love or present a simple but poignant statement (“Marry me?” anyone?).

We have some gift ideas of our own, regardless of their romantic “aesthetic”. How about a stunning color block style print from Bente Miltenburg? I love the lines and the vibrancy of his work. Perhaps a sweet embroidered art piece, or some darling textiles, ties and hankies from This Humble Abode?

If you don’t have a lot to spend but want to make sure your honey gets something made just for them, take a look at Alicia Carrier’s hand-drawn one-hour drawings. Give her “carte blanche” with her art, or give her a little design direction and watch her go!

And if you really want to splurge on your honey, “dive” deep into one of our elegant free-standing tubs. They’re gorgeous, and will promise many hours of lasting enjoyment in the future for your better half. Believe me, they will thank you later!

Modern simple home design in Rio

Thursday, February 3rd, 2011

This Progetto house in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil’s wealthy Barra da Tijuca neighborhood is high on style AND functionality. It takes full advantage of toasty climate with the low slung layout, cool to the touch materials and a relaxed simplistic aesthetic.

An outdoor hallway connects the “leisure” and “living” sections, creating that much-needed separation while maintaining the impeccable flow of the property.

Our Madison Freestanding bathtub would look fabulous in one of bathrooms in this gem of a house. It’s modern, clean and relies on it’s very specific lines to project a look that this house just exudes.
