How to hide your electrical outlets

Wednesday, June 29th, 2011

When you’ve sunk money, time and precious creative energy into a space to create the aesthetic that you envisioned, sometimes any little hiccup in that design can be become a visual nuisance. Electrical outlets and switches, though essential, can be an unsightly blemish in an otherwise stunningly designed room. You don’t have to trash that carefully placed tile mosaic feature with a glaring white block switch cover. Here are some great ideas via Houzz.com on how to work those necessary details INTO your design in the most pleasing manner possible:

Dream tubs for bath lovers

Monday, June 13th, 2011

Showers are great, but nothing beats away the dead dust of the day like a long soak in the tub. Houzz.com put together a soothing idea book featuring some of the most luxurious and relaxing tubs available these days.

An infinity tub, calming turquoise tiles and built-in candles… need I say more?

Bold and eclectic

Monday, March 14th, 2011

To get a clean and put together look in your home, many designers and homeowners choose to go the shades of gray route. It’s crisp, modern, graphically striking and can really be dressed up with a splash of saturated color. Major props go to the masters of color who can take several brash colors and patterns, however, and put them together to create both a pleasing and tidy look.

Houzz.com touched on this subject in one of their idea book posts, and really got me thinking about how we approach design in a space. Maybe it’s not all about starting with a neutral canvas. Maybe it’s more about combing a jumble of designs and styles gracefully, while creating an inviting homey atmosphere that really shows your “true colors”.
